Biography
Dr. Eugene Medvedovski is a Consultant in the area of advanced materials (ceramics, composites and coatings). He just retired (in June 2023) from the R&D Manager position from Endurance Technologies Inc., Calgary, AB, Canada where he was responsible for R&D and new product development working with wear- and corrosion-protective coatings, mostly for oil & gas production and power generation. Previously, he was a Process Development Manager at Umicore TFP in Providence, RI, USA, where he developed and implemented large size and rotary high-density Indium Oxide-based ceramic sputtering targets and some other semiconductors for Transparent Conductive Oxide thin films (e.g., based on tin oxide, zinc oxide), specifically for photovoltaic applications, displays, sensors, thin film transistors and others. Prior to that, he held senior R&D and engineering positions in Canadian companies, including Ceramic Protection Corp. in Calgary and Indepor Inc. in Medicine Hat, where he worked with advanced ceramic and composite ballistic armor and armor systems (for personnel and vehicular applications) and wear- and corrosion-resistant products for mining and mineral processing, power generation and engineering applications, and ceramic electrical insulators. His R&D and manufacturing activity for almost 45 years includes advanced ceramics, composites and coatings and their technology and evaluation for wear-, high temperature corrosion- and thermal shock-resistant products, ballistic armor, conductors and semiconductors, electrical insulators, filters, catalyst carriers and membranes for low-emission power generation and combustion systems, some refractory materials, specifically for molten metals and salts. Numerous materials, products and technologies, which Dr. Medvedovski developed and worked with, were implemented to industry with commercially manufacturing providing significant economic benefit to industry in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia; they include long tubulars and special components with protective coatings for downhole oil production, power generation and refinery, ballistic armor systems, ceramic and composite components for cyclones, piping systems and combustion devices, ceramic insulators for nuclear power plants and vacuum devices and apparatus, sputtering targets for TCO films’ processing for LCD, touch panels and PV. He earned his BSc/MS degree in Ceramic Engineering from the Mendeleev Moscow Chemical Engineering University (Russia) and his PhD degree in Ceramic Engineering/ Electroinsulating Materials from the All-Union Research and Manufacturing Centre of Cable Industry (Moscow, Russia). Dr. Medvedovski is a recipient of prestigious awards for the successful development and industrialization of advanced materials and products. He was the principle developer of the ceramic armor technology awarded by The American Ceramic Society’s Corporate Technical Achievement Award (2001). Eugene is the ACERS Fellow (since 2015), he received the ACERS’ Global Star Award (2015) and Greaves-Walker Award (2021), Phiel Award of IOM3 (UK, 2007), profiled in Marques Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Advances in Applied Ceramics (UK), author of ~ 100 peer-reviewed papers, over 20 inventions, presented numerous talks and lectures at international conferences.
